A statement from Cllr Paul Bell, Leader of the Borough Council of Wellingborough, following a meeting of the full council on 26 July.
"We have one objective - to get the contract sorted so that we can keep The Castle open, whilst considering the staff and programming.
"The report presented to council this evening, with its suggested three month contract extension, was not acceptable to The Castle (Wellingborough) Ltd. They made it clear this was the case. This could have led to the closure of The Castle.
"We have moved an amendment to extend the contract for two years from the end of August, within the existing budget. This won't cost the council more and will offer security to staff.
"We will also establish a Castle Committee, made up of senior councillors from both political parties to oversee contract negotiations, so that by the end of the two year extension we are in a position to deliver the contract."
