Wellingborough is set to host its second Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 20 March and Wellingborough Council is urging people to dust off their trainers and show their support by entering now.
As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives. To sign up, people can visit http://www.sportrelief.com and enter their postcode into the search box and select the Wellingborough option.
Setting off from Redwell Leisure Centre, the Wellingborough event is set to build on the success of previous years, when around 400 people took part.
Quintin Allen, sports project manager at Northamptonshire Sport who work in partnership with the council said: "Entrants don’t have to be sporty to take part. They can choose to complete one, three or six miles knowing that all the money raised will help to change the lives of people living unimaginably tough lives right here on our doorstep, across the rest of the UK and in some the world’s poorest countries."
Tanya Bradley is coordinating the event on behalf of Redwell Leisure Centre and Places for People Leisure said: "There really is something for everyone on the day, from tiny tots coming along with their mums and dads, to super sprinters trying to beat the clock. It’s a brilliant atmosphere and a truly amazing event to participate in, so please sign up and help us make this year the biggest and best yet."
Over 7,900,00 people have been helped in the last two years from money raised from Sport Relief, and approximately £71,820, 731 was raised from Sport Relief 2014 thanks to the amazing generosity of the British Public.
The Sport Relief Weekend kicks off on Friday 18 March, with schools and workplaces getting active and raising cash. The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile takes place all over the country on Sunday 20 March.
