The streets of Wellingborough will be transformed into a riot of colour, music and dance when the carnival comes to town next month.
With just under two weeks to go, final preparations are being made for the spectacular parade which will be followed by a huge day of live music.
The council’s annual party weekend kicks off this year on Saturday 4 July as schools, businesses, pubs, community groups and more dress up to bring carnival celebrations to Wellingborough. The colourful parade will start at Broad Green at 1pm and wind its way through the town centre to Croyland Park.
Spectators can line the streets to see the parade as it moves down the High Street, along Church Street and then Market Street, before turning onto Midland Road and round Castle Way and heading up Sheep Street and Silver Street. It will turn left into Oxford Street and head along Northampton Road before ending up at Croyland Park at around 2.30pm.
Town centre roads will be closed to traffic for the duration of the parade on the Saturday.
The fun continues into Sunday 5 July with live music from 12 noon to 7pm, again at Croyland Park. Local performers and tribute bands will be taking to the stage to entertain the crowds, with the event hosted by Connect FM breakfast show presenters Mark and Liz.
As well as the music, the park will feature a fun fair, craft stalls, food stands and a licensed bar.
Leader of Wellingborough Council, Cllr Paul Bel, said: "Our party weekend is always special. It’s two days packed full of real community entertainment.
"Everyone makes such an effort with the carnival, both with the stunning costumes of the participants and the thousands of people lining the route cheering them on. Following this with another day of live entertainment makes for a magical weekend.
"Best of all, it’s completely free."
Wellingborough Carnival is run by a committee of unpaid volunteers, and party in the park is run by the borough council. More information on both, including how to take part, can be found at www.wellingborough.gov.uk/partyweekend
