Review of Polling Districts, Places and Stations 2019

The Borough Council of Wellingborough is required to divide its area into polling districts for the purposes of Parliamentary elections, and to designate polling places for each of those districts.

The last review of polling districts and polling places took place in 2018; under electoral legislation the council must complete a review of all polling districts and polling places by 31 January 2020.

A consultation opened on Monday 12 August 2019. You can respond to this consultation by using the online survey.

A review took place in 2018 so that any potential changes could have been implemented prior to the local government elections scheduled for May 2019. These elections were subsequently suspended pending local government reorganisation in Northamptonshire.
You can view the 2018 review by following this link.

The proposed changes to polling districts are due to the outcome of the Community Governance Review undertaken in 2018; as a new parish for the town of Wellingborough was established - and the parish boundaries between Wellingborough and two surrounding parishes were amended - new polling districts must be established in order to cover those areas affected. A polling district may not encompass more than one parish, so new districts have to be established in Finedon Ward (Stanton Cross) and Harrowden & Sywell Ward (Glenvale Park).

Although this review does not have to include polling stations, we think about their suitability after each election. The last election was in May 2019 and feedback from this election was generally positive which is why no changes to stations are being proposed. Polling stations are inspected using an accessibility checklist so that every effort can be made to make the polling station accessible to disabled electors or those with limited mobility.

The Acting Returning Officers for the proposed Wellingborough, Daventry & Lutterworth and Kettering Constituencies will be consulted and their representations will be published once received.

Representations are invited between 12 August and 23 September 2019. All comments received on the consultation will be published on our website after 23 September 2019.
