Officers from the Health Protection Section have a number of ongoing food sampling programmes within the area. These are organised to either sample specific food product types, or alternatively to sample food from particular types of premises. The samples are taken to proactively identify any particular food hygiene related issues.
The sampling programmes are coordinated with other authorities from within the County, and also in accordance with a national sampling programme.
Sampling is sometimes undertaken on food premises following a particular concern identified within that premises. Any unsatisfactory results obtained from the sampling are communicated to the relevant business and Officers then work with that business to improve hygiene conditions and food handling practices.
