Business Rates

We are working with Government regarding the latest guidance for Business Rates relating to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic. Please follow this link for the latest advice and information. We are writing to all eligible businesses about business rates changes and small business grant funding, you do not need to contact the council.

Local Restrictions Grant Support for businesses 

If your business is required to close during the second national lockdown (5 November to 2 December), you will be able to apply online for the Local Restrictions Grant Support.

If your application is sucessful, the grant will be paid to the business rate payer. Please download the application form to apply.

You will need provide us with information when you apply, to help us process your application quickly. This will include information about:

  • the ratepayer, including your business rates reference number
  • your business, including your address (with the postcode) and business sector

We're expecting a high number of applications and our team will work through these as quickly as possible, check eligibility and make payments.

Please note: This application process is only for those businesses required to close by Government. If your business is not required to close or does not have a business rate account and has been severely impacted by the lockdown, a separate scheme is being developed. We will publish more information in the near future.

Additional Restrictions Grant (Discretionary)

The Additional Restrictions Grant (Discretionary) is to provide funding to support businesses that have been mandated to close due to the national lockdown imposed 5th November 2020 to 2nd December 2020 that do not have a premises with a rateable value, and therefore do not pay business rates, as well as businesses that do not have to close but which are severely impacted because they predominately supply or service those mandated to close. Eligible businesses could receive the following one off grant amounts:

Grants will be paid at the following levels:
£1,334.00 for rateable values of 15,000 or under
£2,000.00 for rateable values 15,001 – 50,999
£3,000.00 for rateable values 51,000 or over

Should a business not have a rateable value, the grant amount will be based on turnover:

£1,334.00 for turnover up to £75,000
£2,000.00 for turnover between £75,000 and £250,000
£3,000.00 for turnover above £250,000

Applications will be considered taking into account the supporting documents from businesses and are all paid at the discretion of the Section 151 Officer.
