Flytipping is the illegal dumping of waste. It can be anything from domestic items such as fridges, sofas and mattresses to garden waste, tyres and construction waste. Flytipping is irresponsible, detrimental to our local environment and can carry a fine of up to £50,000 and/or six months imprisonment.
If you are paying for someone to remove and dispose of your waste, you are still responsible! Please make sure you use a reputable company that has a waste carriers licence. You can check the Environment Agency's register of licenced carriers here.
Removal of flytipping from private land
The Office of the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner (OPFCC), in partnership with West and North Northamptonshire Councils, offers grants to private landowners who have been a victim of flytipping. You can apply for a grant of up to £1,500, to help you deal with the problem. The funding can be used to cover the cost of having flytipping removed and prevention measures to make your land less vulnerable to flytippers in the future.
