If I am selling burgers at a charity event to I need a certificate?
Any person who is preparing food for members of the public must have a good awareness of food safety principles and ensure that they have relevant controls in place such as hand washing facilities, good personal hygiene and cross contamination controls. Ideally this awareness can be achieved by attending a food hygiene training course such as the Level Two Award in Food Safety, however there is no legal requirement for such training for one off catering for charitable events. If catering for such events becomes more regular then the food handler will need to consider whether they should register with Environmental Health and whether formal training is required.
