Frequently asked questions

When serving cooked food should the person wear gloves and a hat?

It is not a legal requirement for food handlers serving open food to either wear gloves or a hat. It is considered to be good practice to wear a hat. Gloves are also considered to be good practice when used correctly, however wearing gloves can introduce new food safety hazards if not used correctly, so good hand washing and minimal touching of food is usually considered sufficient. Therefore we do not routinely recommend the use of gloves, but we would recommend wearing a hat.
