Fairtrade Wellingborough Campaign
Wellingborough is a Fairtrade Borough, which means that it has met the 5 Goals set by the Fairtrade Foundation (see bottom of this page).
The Fairtrade Wellingborough Campaign was launched in 2005 with the aim of gaining Fairtrade Borough status for Wellingborough. Since then a considerable amount of effort has been put in to promoting Fairtrade and to meeting the Five Goals to Achieving Fairtrade Borough Status.
We put in our application for Fairtrade Borough Status in September 2007 and recieved a request for more information in November , which we supplied, but still needed a little more (if it wasn't hard to achieve it wouldn't be worth doing!).
We spent 2008 and 2009 working had to raise the profile of FT particularly with businesses. In 2009 we visited 64 business to ask if they used FT products and promote their use.
In February 2010, we submitted our bid for Fairtrade Borough Status, and on 11th March we were informed that we had been succesful.
There are Five Goals we need to reach to achieve Fairtrade Borough Status, which can be seen below. Click on the links for more information.
