Planning

Planning is about how we plan for, and make decisions about building and the use of land in the town, the villages and the countryside.

Please see our interactive map or download the list of towns and villages within the Borough of Wellingborough to ensure that your application is within the Wellingborough area.

There are two service areas at the Council with responsibility for planning:

Planning Policy is responsible for preparing plans and policies to guide development in the Borough. The section is also responsible for the designation of Conservation Areas and Tree Preservation Orders.

Information on planning policies, including National Planning Policy, the Regional Spatial Strategy, the Local Development Framework, the Local Plan, Supplementary Planning Guidance and Minerals and Waste Planning can be found on the Planning Policy section of the website.

The Planning / Development Control Service is responsible for the determination and monitoring of planning applications, and other associated applications (listed building consent, breaches of planning control ie. enforcement, advertisement consent etc) submitted to the Council under the Planning Acts.

Most building work, engineering work and use of land requires planning permission, and the purpose of development control is to ensure that the development is carried out in accordance with local and national planning guidance. Many of the issues relating to planning are contained on the Communities and Local Government website

To ensure that day to day decisions on planning applications are rational and consistent, decisions are normally made in accordance with the relevant planning policies.

Information on how to obtain advice before making a planning application and how to submit, view and comment on applications can be found on the Development Control section of the website.
