Council helps with street party costs

Wellingborough Council is offering to help communities with the cost of street parties to make it as easy as possible for residents in the borough to get together to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee.
The council will reimburse a maximum of £100 of the costs of insurance for the first 20 community groups that submit an application.
It is recommended that organisers of street parties have public liability and 'all risks' insurance in place. The council's offer of up to £100 should be sufficient to meet the insurance costs of an event for up to 200 people, cover for anyone who is volunteering to help plan and run the party, provide a £5 million limit of indemnity, and meet the lion's share of costs for loss or damage up to £2,500 for hired equipment.
Leader of Wellingborough Council, Cllr Paul Bell said: "A street party is a great opportunity for families and friends to get together and celebrate an occasion in a really fun and traditional way. We understand that many people will want to make the most of the Diamond Jubilee and the extended holiday weekend to enjoy a street party, but could be put off by the costs and complexities of insurance. We want people to be able to easily organise their party and have a good time without this worry, which is why we're offering to reimburse up to £100 of the cost of insurance for the first 20 party organisers that apply to us."
Application forms can be requested from Gill Chapman on 01933 231 839 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org. The reimbursement awards will be allocated on a first come first served basis and the parties must be held within the borough.
If people are planning on closing a road for their party, they need to apply to the county council for a street closure order no later than 4 May 2012. This can be done on 01604 364 359 or email@example.com
A street party does not need a licence unless people will be charged for alcohol or entertainment. If this is the case, a temporary event notice (TEN) needs to be submitted at least 10 days before the event. A TEN costs £21 and more information can be found by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning 01832 742 241.
