Town centre guide to encourage local shopping
Published Friday 16th September 11
A new guide to more than 300 Wellingborough businesses is launched this week, featuring the huge range of shops and services available for shoppers in the town centre.
The directory has been produced by Wellingborough Council and the Town Centre Partnership (TCP) in response to traders asking for better promotion of what's on offer. It aims to raise the profile of the town centre and encourage people to take advantage of local shopping.
The directory lists details of everything from favourite high-street stores to specialist and independent businesses. As well as shops, bars, cafes and takeaways, it also features businesses such as solicitors, motor services and accountants, as well as community organisations and specialist retailers. Copies are free and can be picked up from town centre shops, any of the borough's five libraries, and the council's offices. The directory is also being distributed to families via children's school book bags and an electronic copy is available to download at the council's website.
Councillor Graham Lawman, chairman of Wellingborough Council's development committee said: "There is a perception that there is very little on offer in Wellingborough town centre, but this directory shows that isn't the case and we really hope it encourages shoppers to take a closer look at what's on their doorstep. We have such a wide range of businesses here and because so many are independent people can really benefit from great prices and excellent customer service. And of course Wellingborough's very accessible and the parking is free. The traders asked for some help in promoting all that's available, so we produced this directory with contact details, websites, pictures and maps. We're hopeful it will help people rediscover our unique town centre."
Copies of the directory can be picked up in participating businesses within the town centre or by phoning the council on 01933 229 777 or the TCP on 01933 270795. Copies can be downloaded at www.wellingborough.gov.uk/tcdirectory
The directory lists over 300 businesses in the town centre, divided into sections including clothes, shoes and accessories, hair and beauty, professional services, and specialist retailers.
