There’s even more to do at Party in the Park
Published Thursday 30th June 11
As well as enjoying six hours of live music at this year’s Party in the Park on Sunday, people will also have an opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues with members of Wellingborough Council.
A general surgery with leading councillors will be taking place between 12pm and 3pm and councillors are keen to hear people's opinions on local issues such as the switching off of street lights. Cllr Paul Bell, leader of the council, will be available to talk to people between 12-1pm, Cllr Barry Graves, deputy leader, will be available between 1-2pm, and Cllr Graham Lawman, chairman of the development committee, will be available between 2-3pm.
There's plenty for the kids to do as well, as they pretend to be mayor for a while. Between 12.30-2.30pm they can dress up in replica robes and chat to the real mayor, Cllr Bhupendra Patel, about the role. Pictures will be taken and certificates given out to all the children that come along to meet the mayor. During the same time, there will be craft activities available, and the children can have fun decorating their own Wellingborough swan picture with glitter and feathers and taking part in recycling-based craft activities.
All of these activities will take place at the council's marquee, which will be towards the back of Croyland Park, a short distance away from the main stage and just over the bridge from the fun fair.
Party in the Park is the council's huge annual live music event and it all happens this Sunday from 12pm. There will be local bands playing and nationally-acclaimed tribute acts to Boy George, Katy Perry and Cheryl Cole. As usual there will also be a licensed bar, plenty of food and drink outlets, and lots of stalls to browse.
Councillor Bell said: "Party in the Park is a fantastic, free day out that really brings the community together. It's a really fun event that is enjoyed by thousands of people every year. I will be there, as will several of my colleagues, and if people want to take the opportunity to talk to us about issues that affect them then we are more than happy to listen and see how we can help. Quite often people don't know who does what in the council or how they can contact us, so we thought it would be useful to run a general surgery at the event. Especially worrying to a lot of people at the moment is the impact of the street light switch off and I'll be meeting with the county council very soon to discuss this. I'll take along any examples and evidence of concerns that people tell me about on Sunday."
Party in the Park is on Sunday 3 July from 12-6pm at Croyland Park, Wellingborough.
