New housing scheme completed in Wellingborough
Published Friday 24th June 11
An opening event to mark a newly-completed social housing scheme at Castle Street, Wellingborough, will be held on Tuesday 28 June at 3pm.
The scheme is the first to be run by Metropolitan Housing Partnership (MHP), in Wellingborough and both the council and MHP have said they hope it will be the first of many.
The site for the development formerly housed two detached properties, both of which were in a poor state of repair. The project consists of five houses arranged as a terrace and eleven flats for general needs affordable rent. There is a fully wheelchair accessible unit and two further ground floor mobility units. The scheme will provide homes for people who have been nominated to receive affordable housing by the council.
The properties have been built by Boothville Roofing Ltd and have a number of eco measures which mean that a Code for Sustainable Homes level 3 has been reached. The eco measures include photovoltaics on the roofs which generate electricity, and all of the houses are fitted with water butts to collect rain for watering gardens.
Attending the event will be Cllr Bhupendra Patel, Mayor of Wellingborough, Jon Maxwell Regional Director (North) for Metropolitan Housing Partnership and local councillors.
