Wellingborough honours armed forces
Published Monday 20th June 11
The Mayor of Wellingborough, Cllr Bhupendra Patel, staged a flag raising ceremony at 10am this morning in honour our military community.
He was joined in the show of support by members of the public, children from All Saints, Friars and Park Junior schools, and uniformed cadets from Wellingborough School.
The ceremony was to celebrate the third annual Armed Forces Day, which this year takes place on Saturday 25 June. Before raising the flag, Cllr Patel said: "Armed Forces Day is a day when the whole nation is invited to show support for the military community both serving and retired, at home and abroad. It is a time to recognise the enormous contribution made to our country by the men and women who make up the armed forces community, from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.
"I am delighted and proud to hoist this flag here today and thank everyone here for taking the time to come along to show their support."
Last year, as part of the build up to Armed Forces Day, over four thousand flags were flown around the country, many from historic and iconic buildings and some by individual members of the public who wanted to show their support personally.
