Wellingborough honours armed forces

Published Tuesday 14th June 11

The Mayor of Wellingborough, Cllr Bhupendra Patel, will stage a flag raising ceremony at 10am on Monday 20 June in honour our military community and would like to invite members of the public to join him in showing support.

The flag raising is to celebrate the third annual Armed Forces Day, which this year takes place on Saturday 25 June. Anyone who wants to attend the ceremony on Monday should assemble in the council's Swanspool House car park at 9.55am.

Cllr Patel said: "Armed Forces Day is a day when the whole nation is invited to show support for the military community both serving and retired, at home and abroad. It is a time to recognise the enormous contribution made to our country by those who serve or have served in the armed forces and gives people the opportunity to show support and give thanks. Anyone who would like to join us in doing this is very welcome to come along to the ceremony on Monday."

Last year, as part of the build up to Armed Forces Day, over four
thousand flags were flown around the country, many from historic
and iconic buildings and some by individual members of the
public who wanted to show their support personally.
