Charity rugby match

Published Tuesday 26th April 11

A big turnout is expected when Wellingborough Rugby Club takes on Northamptonshire Police in a charity rugby match on Thursday 28 April.

The match is in aid of Help for Heroes and was the idea of the Mayor of Wellingborough, Cllr Lora Lawman.

Cllr Lawman explains: "I'm always looking for ways to raise as much money as possible for my charity fund. I was recently at a Wellingborough rugby match and when I got chatting to some people from the police it seemed too good an opportunity to pass up, so we came up with the idea of sorting out a charity rugby match. We have the Wellingborough Rugby Club XV playing the Northamptonshire Police XV and although everyone involved has been so helpful and enthusiastic, I'm sure it will be a highly competitive game! I'm really looking forward to seeing it, and of course seeing how much money we raise for such a worthwhile cause."

The police are expecting a big crowd of supporters, including the Chief Constable who will be there to cheer on his side. Anyone else who would like to go along can simply just turn up on the day.

The match kicks off at 6.15pm on Thursday 28 April at Wellingborough Rugby Club, Cut Throat Lane, Great Doddington.

The event will also feature a raffle and auction, plus collection buckets. All money raised will go to the Mayor's Charity Fund, which this year is supporting Help for Heroes.
