Council services even easier to access

Published Thursday 10th February 11

Wellingborough Council is taking its first steps towards providing a ‘one stop shop’ service for customers in its Tithe Barn Road reception.

Services currently operating from the council's Croyland Abbey reception, including planning application advice, heritage and conservation enquiries, local land searches, taxi licensing, noise complaints, food and health safety, and pest control, will be transferred to Tithe Barn Road from Monday 14 February. Croyland Abbey reception will be closed to the public from the end of Friday 11 February. The idea behind the move is to make it as easy as possible for customers to access council services, all in one place.

Signs and maps will be put on the doors of Croyland Abbey reception to alert customers to the new arrangements, and once at Tithe Barn Road they will be given assistance by council employees to find what they need. Computers will be available for customers to access the planning portal and council website, and customer services will arrange for officers to attend if necessary. A planning duty officer will be available from 1-5pm daily and a licensing officer will be on duty from 10am-1pm to cover specific enquiries.

James Wilson from Wellingborough Council said: "This is a positive move for people who use our services. As a council we are spread out over three buildings and people have to move from one to another to access a range of services. By putting the services from Croyland Abbey into Tithe Barn Road, we are hoping to make life easier for people who come to the council. It may take a bit of getting used to for people who frequently visit Croyland Abbey, but all our employees are fully prepared to ensure the move goes as smoothly as possible and we don't foresee any problems."

As well as transferring the Croyland Abbey reception services, the one stop shop at Tithe Barn Road will also feature outside organisations that can offer advice and assistance to customers.

James Wilson adds: "We have Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB) ready to take up a presence in the reception at the end of February, and they will be able to offer a range of services for our customers. Again, this is part of our vision to make sure that customers have easy access to the people who can help them with all manner of enquiries and information."
