Works not affected by weather

Contractors working on Market Street in Wellingborough are confident that the recent bad weather won’t set them back.
Working through freezing temperatures and blustery wind and rain, the construction team are on schedule to finish the first stage of the improvement works by the end of November.
The works to widen the pavements and make the area more attractive and pedestrian-friendly will stop over Christmas, with the site being opened up on 26 November and work beginning again in the New Year.
Traffic on Midland Road is now two-way, and this is for access to all business along the road, not just for deliveries. The two-way traffic will continue until the works finish in November, at which point all the roads affected will be used as before.
Wellingborough Council is having regular meetings with representatives from the businesses affected by the works, and they have reported that the construction team have been very helpful in sorting out any issue that arise. The traders are very keen that people know that they are still open for business and that the construction team will help people get to the shops if they need assistance.
Cllr Graham Lawman, chairman of the council's development committee said: "We've had some appalling weather recently and it's of great credit to the team that they have managed to keep on schedule, whilst also helping both the traders and the public. I know that they are putting on extra men, working out of hours whenever they can and looking at weekend work to ensure that whatever the weather throws at them they will finish as planned at the end of the month. There is no doubt that works of this nature will be inconvenient for everyone affected, and we want to make sure we minimise that inconvenience as much as possible - by helping the traders as much as we can and by finishing and opening up the site when we said we would.
"All the business in the affected roads - Market Street, Cambridge Street and Midland Road - are open as usual and getting ready for the busiest time of year. We can't do much about the British weather, but we can help people get to these shops and we can make sure we finish as quickly as possible."
