Could you be a councillor?

Cllr Pursglove

Wellingborough Council will be hosting a special event next week to encourage members of the public to stand for election in May 2011.

The council wants a diverse range of people to consider standing for the council and the event - held in the Council Chamber at Swanspool House on Tuesday 26 October between 5-7pm - will give people the chance to chat to councillors and find out more about what the role entails. Representatives from different council services will also be on hand to talk to people about what the council provides for the public.

Councillor Thomas Pursglove, who was elected to the Croyland ward in 2007 at just 18 years of age explains why people should consider putting themselves forward:

"Not only are elections and the democratic process that they embody great fun, it is also a huge honour to represent your constituents if elected. Being a councillor is by no means an easy task, but it is immensely rewarding.

"If you wish to shape our community, and you have the time to commit to it, I would encourage you to consider standing for election next May - there really has never been a better time to be a councillor."
