Dog control offence
Published Thursday 7th October 10
A Wellingborough man has been fined for dog control offences.
John Charles Jeffrey of Priory Road did not attend court on 30 September and was found guilty in his absence by Wellingborough Magistrates.
Mr Jeffrey was seen by a council environmental warden failing to clean up after his dog in the street on two separate dates in April. He was fined £75 and £87.50 for the offences of not removing dog faeces on 15 April and 25 April 2010, and £75 and £87.50 respectively for not having his dog on a lead on the same dates. He was also ordered to pay £100 costs and £15 victim surcharge. Mr Jeffrey had already received a fixed penalty for a similar dog fouling offence in March, which he paid.
Councillor Malcolm Waters, chairman of the council's community committee said, "This prosecution demonstrates our commitment to maintaining a clean environment and sends out a clear message that we will use all powers available to help us achieve this. A fixed penalty is a one-off alternative to prosecution but repeat offenders can expect to be taken to court."
