Littering prosecution - May 2010

Published Friday 28th May 10

A Northampton man has been found guilty of a littering offence. Paul Robinson of Hawkesby Place, Ecton Brook was convicted following a trial on 25 May at Northampton Magistrates Court.

He was fined £200 and ordered to pay £250 costs plus £15 victim surcharge. There is a right of appeal against the decision.

Mr Robinson was driving an articulated lorry in Park Farm Way , Wellingborough on 23 November 2009 when a local councillor travelling behind him saw a drinks can and a cigarette end thrown from the driver's window.  Mr Robinson, whose employer confirmed that he was the driver, declined a fixed penalty notice for the offence and was therefore prosecuted.

John Casserly, Wellingborough Council's Head of Environmental Services, said: "This sends out a clear message that we take littering and other environmental offences seriously and will continue to use all powers available to help us maintain a clean borough".
