Armed Forces Day – Fly a Flag campaign

Published Tuesday 15th June 10

The Mayor of Wellingborough, Councillor Lora Lawman, will stage a public flag raising ceremony at 10.30am on Monday 21 June to honour our military community, both serving and retired.

Armed Forces Day takes place on 26 June, and is an opportunity to recognise and appreciate the contribution made across the world by our service men and women. The Ministry of Defence will be raising the Armed Forces Day flag on Monday 21 June and will keep it flying until Armed Forces Day itself, and have asked that this ceremony is repeated throughout the country.

The Mayor would like to invite members of the public to join her in showing support to our armed forces. Anyone who wants to attend the ceremony should assemble in the car park at the council offices, Swanspool House, at 10.25am.

Last year, as part of the build up to Armed Forces Day, over three
thousand flags were hoisted all around the British Isles, as well as
in Iraq, Afghanistan, the Falkland Islands and Fiji and it is hoped
that this year will attract an even greater level of support.
