Council investigates ways to make savings
Published Friday 27th August 10
As part of a major cost saving initiative, Wellingborough Council is looking for ways to make savings on its back office services through outsourcing or partnership working.
In order to find out if there is potential interest from private companies to supply back office services such as finance, facilities management, human resources and customer services, the council has placed an advert in the Official Journal of the European Union that can be seen by organisations all around the EU.
Any interested parties are being asked to contact the council for further details and to register their interest, with a view to undertaking a full tendering process for the work at a later stage.
The council is taking this approach for two reasons; firstly, if there is no interest from the private sector the council can save time and money on carrying out the tendering process. Alternatively, if there is interest from the marketplace, the interested parties can be consulted prior to drawing up tender documents so that they can be better defined.
Cllr Paul Bell said: "We want to gauge the level of appetite from the private sector for taking over the day to day running of one or more of our back office functions as a way of helping us to meet our future financial challenges. We need to make savings of around £2.5 million over the next 3 years and we are looking at all options available to us. At this point there is no obligation or commitment for us to outsource any of our services. This is merely an information gathering exercise and it is expected the results will be known in a couple of months time".
