Swimming Pool Closure
Published Monday 23rd August 10
Wellingborough Council’s Environmental Health officers have been called in to investigate water quality at The Waendel Leisure Centre swimming pool on Thomas Street, Wellingborough.
The pool, run by DC Leisure Limited, has been closed to the public as a safety precaution following a request from the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
Amanda Robinson, Health Protection Manager at Wellingborough Council said: "We were called in after the HPA was notified of three cases of cryptosporidium in Wellingborough. All three individuals had been swimming at the Waendel Leisure Centre and we have been working closely with DC Leisure Limited who voluntarily closed the pool as a precaution. Water sampling equipment is being used to test the water quality and the results should be available to us tomorrow (Tuesday). The individuals involved have fully recovered."
Simon Churchman from DC Leisure Limited said: "The cause of the problem is being fully investigated and appropriate remedial action will be taken so that the pool can be re-opened as soon as possible. The centre's other facilities continue to operate as usual and we apologise for any inconvenience this causes to our customers."
