Council staff wear yellow for charity

Published Thursday 16th September 10

Staff at Wellingborough Council will be supporting the Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance on Wednesday 22 September. Employees will make a donation to the Air Ambulance and will wear something yellow on the day to show their support.

Council worker Janet Leadbitter, whose son Mark was airlifted to hospital last summer following an accident at work, explains why she is keen to raise awareness of the vital service:

"Mark had a bad accident at work - he's a carpenter and he fell into a machine which resulted in him losing a couple of fingers. The paramedics were excellent, and it was explained that the best surgeon to help him was in Coventry.  In cases like this every second is crucial and the air ambulance got him to the hospital in Coventry in 15 minutes.

"After the incident my husband and I were determined to help the air ambulance in any way we could. They rely on donations from the public and need £1.5m a year to keep going. My husband has recently started volunteering for them and when he heard about the 'wear yellow' fundraiser we wanted to get involved. I'm delighted that the council is supporting us and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in yellow on Wednesday, and of course to collecting lots of donations for this incredibly important service."
