Lunchtime recital
Published Monday 17th May 10
An unusual lunchtime recital for classical music enthusiasts is coming to Tithe Barn, Wellingborough this week.
The talented Alison Stephens on mandolin and Craig Ogden on guitar visit Tithe Barn for the first time to play a beautiful classical recital on Wednesday 19 May from 1-2pm.
Alison and Craig are both consummate artists in their own right, each with numerous CDs to their name and extensive performing experience as soloists and chamber musicians in concert halls across the UK and the world. They both hold high profile lecturing posts: Alison as Head of Mandolin studies at Trinity College of Music, London and Craig as Principal Lecturer in Guitar at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. They are also both editors for Astute Music Publishers (http://www.astute-music.com/ ).
They first began working together for the CD project Music from the Novels of Louis de Bernières (CHAN9780) in 1999. The disc was a huge success, featuring in the top 10 in the classical charts and was the Daily Telegraph's CD of the week, stating "this disc is pure joy". It is still Chandos Records' fastest ever selling CD. They followed the disc release with numerous concerts right across the UK and tours of Australia, the Middle East and South Africa. They have also regularly been involved in poetry and music recitals with Louis de Bernières (author of Captain Corelli's Mandolin). Ten years on from their first CD, Craig and Alison still regularly give many recitals together and also perform in concerto performances alongside each other. Their new CD Souvenirs (CHAN10563) was released on the Chandos label in Sept 2009 to great acclaim: "A beautifully performed disc that is brimming with fun and fire" (The Gramophone).
Tickets cost just £3.50 (£2.75 concessions) and are available on the door from 12.15pm before the recital. Tea and coffee are available beforehand for 50p.
