£292,000 grant to help make homes decent
Published Monday 26th April 10
Wellingborough Council is to receive £292,000 from the government to help make privately owned homes in the borough decent to live in. The funding will be used to supplement the council’s own resources to deliver grant assistance to low income and vulnerable households to carry out essential repairs and improvements to their homes.
At the council's Community Committee on Monday evening it was reported that the funding of £292,000 has been confirmed by the Department for Communities and Local Government to improve the homes of vulnerable households. This funding will enable the council to provide grant assistance to qualifying householders to install energy efficient heating and insulation, deal with any hazards that affect health and safety within the home and ensure people have decent modern facilities such as bathrooms and kitchens.
Over the past year a previous allocation of £220,000 has enabled Wellingborough Council to make 96 properties decent to live in (60 occupied by vulnerable households), improve the energy efficiency of 408 homes and provide two new flats over shops in the town centre area.
Terry Wright, the council's Corporate Director responsible for Community Committee, said: "This is great news for residents of the borough who need to get essential work carried out to their homes to keep healthy, safe and warm."
