Snow Plan for Wellingborough
Published Friday 19th February 10
Wellingborough Council has implemented its Snow Plan to deal with the severe weather conditions across the Borough.
Grounds maintenance and street cleansing crews were transferred from their usual duties and were out gritting and clearing snow. Areas around the Council Offices at Swanspool House and Tithe Barn have been gritted to allow safe employee and public access. Grit has also been spread at Doddington Road Cemetery to allow safe public access, and to assist with a funeral this afternoon.
Wellingborough Council is continuing to work closely with the County Council, who confirmed that they had been gritting in Wellingborough Town Centre early this morning. The Borough Council has therefore decided not to deploy teams to this area in an attempt to conserve grit. Of the 6 tonnes of grit that Wellingborough Council had stored at its depot, approximately 3 tonnes have so far been used. Areas that were highlighted by local Councillors as priority areas have also been passed to the County Council for consideration.
Refuse Collections, bulky collections and bin deliveries have been suspended today, and householders who were due for a collection today are advised to put their bins out for collection on Monday instead. All bulky collections will also be rescheduled for Monday. This information has been posted on the Council's website.
Council officers will be keeping an eye on weather forecasts over the coming days, and will be closely monitoring the Snow Plan. Temperatures are due to drop to -6 overnight which may result in some freezing of slush, however day-time temperatures over the weekend should assist the grit already laid to naturally disperse the icy conditions. At this stage there is no intention for either the County or Borough Council to do anything further in the town centre over the weekend as the weather should assist melting naturally.
