Councillors last night appointed Joe Hubbard to the post of Interim Chief Executive and Head of Paid Service. The fixed term appointment will start on 1 July 2010 and end no later than 31 December 2011.

Wellingborough Council's current Chief Executive, Lyn Martin-Bennison, will be leaving her post at the end of June. Following her announcement to retire, councillors began identifying the best course of action to replace her. It was decided that the role of a new Chief Executive couldn't be properly defined until decisions had been made about how services would be delivered in the future. The appointment of an Interim Chief Executive will allow time for the council to determine its future direction. By making the appointment internally, and leaving Joe's current position vacant, the council will save up to £165,000 over the eighteen month period.

Joe is currently Deputy Chief Executive, and he's looking forward to taking on his new role:

"I am delighted to be given the opportunity to help lead Wellingborough Council through this particularly challenging period. The Council needs to be clear about its priorities and how it is going to deliver high quality and value for money services that meet the needs of the public, and with significantly reduced resources. This is clearly a challenging task but one that I am wholly committed to. I look forward to supporting the interests of local people, elected Members, our partners and staff, as I undertake this role."
