Councillor JLH Bailey was presented with a certificate at the East Midlands Regional Assembly in recognition of this Council signing up to the Prompt Payment Code. Prompt payment is important, especially at times of economic difficulty as one in four businesses goes insolvent due to late payment, average UK payment time is 23 days beyond agreed terms and has lengthened by 3 days in the past year. As an approved signatory to the Prompt Payment Code, the Council undertakes to pay suppliers on time, give clear payment guidance to suppliers and encourage good practice. A visible commitment to this undertaking will demonstrate public leadership during the recession.
