Free Swimming Lessons
Published Tuesday 1st December 09
The Waendel Leisure centre in Wellingborough has a perfect solution to Christmas overindulgence, as it will be offering free swimming lessons from the New Year.
Swimming is a great way to get fit and lose weight - two common New Year's resolutions - and the centre is hoping that the free lessons will encourage more people to take up the sport.
There will be a total of seven free swimming lesson courses running between January and March 2010. The courses will target the over 60s, adults with disabilities or additional needs, and ladies only. There will be a registration afternoon at the centre on 27 November 2009.
The free courses are for non swimmers or beginners and will enable those taking part to gain confidence in the water and learn some basic strokes. All classes will be delivered by a fully qualified Level 2 swimming instructor, and a female instructor will teach the ladies only course. Each course will have six hours of lessons.
Liz Flores, Culture Development Manager at Wellingborough Borough Council says,
"We hope that people take advantage of this offer. It is a great opportunity for people that have, for various reasons, been unable or unwilling to access the swimming pool. Waendel Leisure Centre is a fantastic facility and we hope this will enable all members of our community to use it."
The swimming lessons, funded by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, are part of the government's free swimming initiative, delivered in partnership with the Amateur Swimming Association and the Borough Council of Wellingborough.
To register interest and to check eligibility, please attend the registration afternoon on 27 November 2009 at the Waendel Leisure Centre, Wellingborough, or contact Laura Banks at the centre on 01933 221 622 or email laurabanks@dcleisure.co.uk.
