Redevelopment of the Swansgate multi-storey car park

Multi-million pound redevelopment work will soon start on Swansgate multi-storey car park.

The Swansgate multi-storey car park, which offers free parking in the heart of Wellingborough Town Centre, will be extensively refurbished with works anticipated to start from 16 March 2020.

The redevelopment works will take approximately ten months and are expected to be completed by end January 2021. Certain floors within the car park will remain open and accessible during the works. Visitors can access alternative free council-owned car parks in the town.

The schedule of works will aim to address the recent concerns of anti-social behaviour including arson and drug crime, and vastly improve the much used facility, in turn contributing to the wider regeneration of the town.

There is a requirement to address the rise in anti-social behaviour, which has been escalated by Swansgate Shopping Centre, Police and Fire and the council is working with its partners to tackle these issues.

Leader of the Borough Council, Cllr Martin Griffiths, said: “Swansgate multi-storey car park is a well-used facility which is utilised by many residents and visitors to the town.

“The regeneration works will improve access and usage of the car park and will address anti-social behaviour which has had a negative effect over the last few months.

“We look forward to working with our partners and contractors to carry out the improvement works and reopen the refurbished facility.
