The Deputy Mayor of the Borough Council of Wellingborough raised the Red Ensign flag at Swanspool House today (Tuesday, 3 September) to commemorate Merchant Navy Day.
Councillor Malcolm Ward was accompanied by fellow councillors, officers and members of the public to mark the occasion.
Local authorities and organisations across the country commemorate the hard work and sacrifices made by the Merchant Navy, past and present, on 3rd September each year in respect of the outbreak of the second world war and the first British maritime casualty.
The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Malcolm Ward, said: “I am delighted that my fellow councillors, officers from the council and residents were able to gather to raise the Red Ensign at Swanspool House to commemorate our Merchant Navy, and the sacrifices men and women have made, and continue to make, for our country.”
