The council has committed £300,000 of capital funding to deliver a number of developments at Waendel Leisure Centre and will provide more opportunities for people to take part in physical activity.
The centre has already been vastly improved with the introduction of a sauna and steam room last year to complement the swimming pool refurbishment.
Places Leisure, who manages Redwell and Waendel Leisure Centres on behalf of the council, has started work on a second group exercise studio that will offer a wide-range of holistic activities, including yoga and Pilates. The new studio is anticipated to open at the start of February.
Additionally, investment from the council will encourage gym goers to become more active, more often as the current gym will be overhauled to introduce a larger free weight zone, exercise rig and a sledge run. Work will take place between 3 and 28 December.
Work will also start on a new group cycling studio in January, which members will be able to use from February.
There are plans for the council to work with Places Leisure to review opportunities to improve Redwell Leisure Centre in the future.
