Countdown to Christmas

Residents are invited to join the Borough Council of Wellingborough to celebrate the countdown to Christmas at Market Street on Saturday 24 November.

The cast of Cinderella, including The X Factor finalist Christopher Maloney, will be joining the Mayor of Wellingborough, Cllr Malcolm Ward, to turn on this year’s display at 5.30pm, followed by a dazzling fireworks, sponsored by Stanton Cross.

Christopher Maloney, X Factor Finalist and Prince Charming in Cinderella performing at the Castle Theatre this Christmas, said: “I am so excited to join the cast of Cinderella and celebrate the countdown to Christmas alongside the Mayor of Wellingborough. We are really looking forward to meeting youngsters from across the borough, and performing at the Castle Theatre next month.”

Paul Soutar, Divisional Operations Director at Bovis Homes, responsible for Stanton Cross, said: “Stanton Cross is delighted to be adding some extra Christmas sparkle to Wellingborough’s town centre celebrations by sponsoring the firework display. This is a fantastic event that we hope will be enjoyed by the whole community, including new residents joining us at Stanton Cross this year!”

A number of local organisations will be taking to the stage from 2.30pm alongside Connect FM’s breakfast host, Liz Jeeves, including award-winning Singing for Breathing, a local group for people with COPD and respiratory conditions, Wellingborough’s Northamptonshire Music & Performing Arts Trust group (NMPAT) and The Skittlez, a vocal harmony group.

Head of NMPAT Wellingborough, Christine Jones, said: “Wellingborough Music & Arts centre concert band are looking forward to kick starting the festive season with some old favourites and up tempo numbers!”

Youngsters will be greeted by Father Christmas, which has been supported by Wellingborough Hatton Rotary Club. Children will also have the opportunity to win the chance to turn this year’s display alongside the Mayor and the Cast of Cinderella.

Leader of the Borough Council of Wellingborough, Cllr Martin Griffiths, added: “We are delighted that a number of fantastic local organisations and the talented cast of Cinderella will be joining us for this year’s Christmas light switch on.

“I would encourage everyone to come along and help us celebrate the start of the festive season at this event; it is guaranteed to be a lot of fun for all the family.”
