Unitary proposals agreed
On Tuesday 28 August, councillors at the Borough Council of Wellingborough attended a public meeting to debate the invitation from the Secretary of State to submit proposals for local government reform in Northamptonshire.
The vote was carried to respond to the Secretary of State and to submit the Unitary bid. Councillors voted to put forward £500,000 towards the next steps and approve interim government structure.
The county council agreed to the proposals earlier in the day.
Leader of the Borough Council of Wellingborough, Councillor Martin Griffiths, said: "Now two councils have voted to submit a proposal, one will be sent to the Secretary of State. The democratic process for all other councils now needs to take place and we await their decisions."
