Workplaces

During 2009 64 places of work in Wellingborough were visited as a follow up on a letter sent out the previous week. Information was left at each establishment. Dates of "FT Treks":-

The programme of "Fairtrade Treks" is established as a key part of the Fairtrade Wellingborough Campaign.

Educational Establishments

The Fairtrade Wellingborough Campaign regularly send information to schools on Fairtrade (such as scripts for assemblies around Fairtrade Fortnight). Approximately half of the borough's schools promote Fairtrade in some form, ranging from using Fairtrade tea and coffee in staff rooms through to integration into the curriculum. Of the latter, a shining examp[le comes from Weavers School where:-

  • In Year 7 there is lesson content regarding Fairtrade at the start of  in the topic "Making Connections".
  • In year 8 during "Can the Earth cope?" 
  • In Year 9 in the topics "What is development?" and "Local action, global effects"
  • At Key stage 4 reference to Fairtrade is made in "Managing Resources".

Places of Worship

Eighteen out of twenty-two parishes in the Borough have signed the Parish Pledge as part of the Diocese of Peterborough (Wellingborough Deanery) bid to become a Fairtrade Diocese (see webpage at http://www.peterborough-diocese.org.uk/social/fairtrade.htm )

Sixteen churches actively promote Fairtrade and two of these have achieved Fairtrade Church Status.

Fairtrade stalls have been held at a number of multifaith events held in the borough.
