Goal 1: Local Authority Support

- GOAL ACHIEVED!

The following recommendation, made by the Borough Council of Wellingborough's Economic and Environment Committee on the 5th October 2005, was adopted by Full Council on the 25th October 2005:

"The Borough Council of Wellingborough, as an important consumer and opinion leader, should research, develop and support a strategy to facilitate the promotion and purchase of foods within the Fairtrade Mark as part of its committment to sustainable development and to give marginalised producers a fair deal".

The Report to the Economic and Environment Committee set out the reasons why the Council should support Fairtrade.

Goal 2: Fairtrade Products Readily Available

- GOAL ACHIEVED!

For a borough with the population of Wellingborough, the goal is to have a minimum of 15 retail outlets and 7 catering outlets serving Fairtrade products. At February 2008 we have 19 retail outlets and 8 catering outlets.

If you know of a retail or catering outlet which sells Fairtrade goods, please let the Wellingborough Fairtrade Campaign Steering Group know. You could also hand a copy of the letter to catering outlets that you think might be interested in stocking fair trade products.

Goal 3: Fairtrade Products Used By A Number of Local Workplaces

- MORE INFORMATION REQUIRED

If the company you work for uses or would like to use fairly traded products, either for corporate purposes or for general refreshments, please let us know by e-mailing the Wellingborough Fairtrade Campaign Steering Group.

The January 2007 copy of Business and Environment News has a feature on Fairtrade and reasons why a company may like to broadcast the fact that they are supporters.

Goal 4: Attract Media Coverage and Popular Support

- GOAL ACHIEVED!

We receive regular coverage in the local press. Here are a selection of cuttings from the past couple of years.
