Easton Maudit

Occupying the south west corner of the Borough about six miles from Wellingborough, the home of some 60 residents, Easton Maudit has had many prominent literary and religious visitors, several of whose personal belongings are still kept in the village.

It is reputed that under an old elm tree, opposite the church, both John Bunyan and John Wesley preached. The parish has been associated with the Maudit, Yelverton and Compton families, amongst others, since 1131.

Both James I and Charles I were visitors to the manor house which was demolished in 1801.

Ecton

Six miles west of Wellingborough, Ecton is best known as a place of pilgrimage for visitors from the United States, being home to the family of Benjamin Franklin for over 300 years.

A blacksmith by trade, Franklin's father was born here in 1655 and is buried, with many of his ancestors, in the churchyard.

Notable buildings in the village include Ecton Hall and The World's End public house.  Part of the village has been designated a Conservation Area.
