Industrial Pollution Control Permits

Under the Pollution Prevention Control Act 1999 and the Environmental Permitting Regulations 2007 certain premises in the Borough require a permit to emit pollutants to air and for certain premises land and water.

The permits are issued by Environment Agency or the Council. The Environment Agency issues permits for A1 installations and the Council for A2 and Part B Installations which includes, cement batch processes, vehicle refinishers and dry cleaners.

The Environment Agency have online access to registers at http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/research/library/publicregisters/default.aspx.

The Council's permit register may be viewed by clicking here.

In addition a guide for small business is provided at http://www.netregs.gov.uk/. Any installation required to obtain a permit will need to apply to the relevant regulator and pay an application fee. Thereafter an annual subsistance fee is payable the amount of which is determined by a risk assessment. Periodic inspections are carried out to ensure compliance with the conditions which form part of the permit.
