If you want to sell to Europe, you should first assess which markets are open to you and whether or not you could meet their needs. UK Trade & Investment offers trade advice to businesses wanting to grow their business overseas, including country and sector information. For details visit their website at https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/uk-trade-investment.
Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU)
All European public body tenders over the EU thresholds are advertised in the OJEU (there are however a few exceptions to this rule, as a number of services do not have to be advertised in the OJEU). The OJEU provides information on the current requirements and invites suppliers to express an interest in a tender, as well as information on contracts that have been awarded. The OJEU includes tenders from UK public bodies.
The online version of the OJEU is called TED (Tenders Electronic Daily) and can be accessed at http://ted.europa.eu/
TED provides free access to business opportunities. It is updated five times a week with approximately 1500 public procurement notices from the European Union, the European Economic Area and beyond. You can browse, search and sort procurement notices by country, region, business sector and more. You will need to register on the site to access the full contents; registration and use of the site are free.
Alert / subscription services
There are a number of alerting services offered via the web, which offer to help businesses use TED and find European and other contract opportunities. Some of these are listed below:
With My Tenders you can search for tender notices both above and below the OJEU thresholds. Registration on this site is free, however an additional service - Tenders Direct - is offered for an annual fee. This service will search for relevant opportunities for you and send you email alerts as the opportunities arise. For more information about this service visit: http://www.tendersdirect.co.uk/
Contrax Online publishes both high and low value tender opportunities on its website and in the paper version Contrax Weekly. You can subscribe nationally or regionally, depending on what type of opportunities you are interested in. You can search for public sector tender notices; additional support services and resources are also offered. There is an annual fee to use the daily alert service.
Tender Match (Tracker)
The Tracker service searches a range of media and publications from across the UK and Europe. You can set up your own profile and register for email alerts for a fee, as well as a range of support resources.
Euro Info Centres
The European Commission has set up Euro Info Centres (EIC) throughout the UK to provide information and services for businesses. These include a full OJEU library service and an alerting service for Tenders Electronic Daily. Most centres have been set up within other organisations including, for example, business development agencies such as Business Link, university libraries and regional Chambers of Commerce. You can find your local EIC by visiting the EIC website.
PublicTenders.net brings together eight websites advertising a variety of public sector opportunities.
