Wellingborough was one of the first local authorities to sign up to the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change back in 2001.

Our first Climate Change Strategy was produced in 2003 and this has recently been reviewed and updated to reflect the actions that all local authorities are now expected to take to tackle climate change, as well as setting out our own agenda for action.

The main part of the updated Climate Change Strategy is the Action Plan. This draws together a number of pieces of work which seek to address the various issues that face us in relation to a changing climate. Key amongst these are:-
  • the council's Carbon Management Plan, which sets out the actions the council is investigating to reduce its carbon footprint by 30% by 2012, and
  • the Local Climate Impacts Profile Report for Wellingborough which analyses past weather events and their impact on the borough and looks at how impacts from a changing climate may affect the borough.
