Heritage Training Grants and Bursaries

Students of traditional skills such as stonemasonry and carpentry can now apply to Wellingborough Council for help with course fees, thanks to our Heritage Lottery Funded project.

The Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) is providing valuable funding towards restoration and the repair of important heritage buildings within Wellingborough town centre and we want to ensure that the specialist skills necessary to continue to take care of these buildings, exists for future generations.

Therefore, we have created three grants to support trainees and professionals to bolster their skills and take advantage of opportunities to learn new skills:

  • Heritage Skills Qualification Bursary - in partnership with Moulton College, this bursary is paid directly towards the cost of your course fees. £500 is on offer to students studying; Diploma Levels 1,2 & 3 Carpentry and Joinery/Site Carpentry or Certificate level 1, Diploma level 2 & 3 in stonemasonry.
  • Heritage Training Support Grant - also in partnership with Moulton College, but can also be used to fund courses by alternative providers, where suitable criteria is met. Grants up to £500 are available.
  • Specialist Tools Voucher - it is important when learning any new trade, to have access to appropriate tools. Therefore, this grant has been designed to help applicants purchase their first set of tools to support their training and career. This grant supports any applicant applying for either of the two main grants/bursaries, but it can also be applied for independently.
