Insulate your Home
Over the last few decades human activity has greatly increased the levels of pollution in the Earth's atmosphere. Whenever we burn fossil fuels for generating electricity, or for heating, greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, are produced. These emissions accumulate in our atmosphere and most scientists now believe that this will cause potentially catastrophic changes to our climate.
If we carry on burning fossil fuels at the rate we are today, then scientists predict serious consequences. We need to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that we produce to tackle the threat of climate change. By making sure our homes are well insulated we can reduce our use of energy and the carbon dioxide produced. The savings in your fuel bills will cover the cost of insulation in 1 - 2 years.
Loft insulation
Around 25% the heat lost in a home escapes through the roof.
Insulating your loft is simple to do and you can even install the insulation yourself. Even if you already have loft insulation, check its thickness. Adding another layer to bring it up to the recommended 270mm will save both energy and money.
Cavity wall insulation
Around 35% of the heat lost in a house escapes through the walls. You could save up to £120 on your energy bills each year by insulating your wall cavities.
