How equalities are integrated into our work

An Audit Commission Access to Services inspection in 2010 judged that:

"The Borough Council of Wellingborough is delivering fair access to services, with promising prospects for improvement. The Council has a variety of methods through which people can contact the Council, making services easier to access. The Council is developing effective arrangements for consulting, engaging and communicating with local people."

The equalities agenda is integral to our decision making processes. This is demonstrated in the flow diagram 'How equalities are included in corporate reporting mechanisms

The equalities work of service teams, through to decisions made in Policy Committees and Full Council, is coordinated and overseen by the Equalities Steering Group which includes an elected member as well as representatives from all service areas and the Corporate Management Team.

The equalities information that we gather about the Borough and our customers is fed into our strategies and policies to ensure that we address the issues raised for the benefit of our residents. Most recent documents include a commitment to equalities.
