Wellingborough Council is responsible for collecting the Council Tax to pay for services provided by Northamptonshire County Council, the Borough Council and Northamptonshire Police Authority.

Do I have to pay Council Tax?

Most homes have to pay Council Tax. There is one bill per home, whether it is a house, bungalow, flat, mobile home or houseboat, and whether it is owned or rented.

Some homes, known as exempt, do not have to pay Council Tax. Some exemptions only apply for short periods.

How much do I have to pay?

The full Council Tax assumes that there are two or more adults living in a property. You may be able to get a discount if this is not the case, for example, if you live on your own. Where only one adult lives in the property the bill will be reduced by a quarter (25%).

The full amount of Council Tax is based on the property band into which your home falls. The bandings are determined by the Valuation Office Agency

• A - Up to and including £40,000
• B - £40,001 to £52, 000
• C - £52,001 to £68, 000
• D - £68,001 to £88,000
• E - £88,001 to £120,000
• F - £120,001 to £160,000
• G - £160,001 to £320,000

If you receive certain benefits, or your income is low, you may be able to get your Council Tax payments reduced by claiming Council Tax Benefit.

Change in circumstances?

You must notify us immediately if there is a change in your circumstances, such as change of address, name, other people moving in etc. You can do this by visiting our offices, telephoning on 01933 231999 or by email on generalenquiries@wellingborough.gov.uk.
