Housing Benefit ends from 21st November 2018

From 21st November 2018 if you are working age you will not be able to make a new claim for:

  • Housing Benefit
  • Tax Credits
  • Income Support
  • Income based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income based Employment Support Allowance

The only time a working age person should still claim Housing Benefit is when:

  • You are living in Specified Accommodation or Temporary Accommodation (still claim Universal Credit but you get Housing Benefit instead of Universal Credit housing costs) or
  • Your partner is state Pension Credit Age (your partner can choose to claim Pension Credits & Housing Benefit)

Make an online Housing Benefit or Council Tax Support claim

You can now make a claim for Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Support online. To do this you must have the following details to hand:

  • Your National Insurance Number
  • Details of all household member’s names/dates of birth
  • Details of income for all household members
  • Details of capital/savings/investments for you/your partner, including account numbers and sort codes
  • Details of your rent and landlord/agent
  • Not essential, but if known/applicable your Housing Benefit reference number or Council Tax account number
