Role of environmental wardens
The Environmental Wardens deal with many of the problems affecting the quality of the local environment, such as littering, dog control issues, fly tipping, nuisance vehicles and graffiti. Their role is also to assist the Police in providing an additional uniformed presence to contribute to community safety and security.
The wardens are authorised to issue fixed penalty notices for various offences including littering and failing to clean up dog mess. Fixed penalty notices are issued as an alternative to prosecution and only in circumstances where there is sufficient evidence to support a prosecution if the fixed penalty goes unpaid.
